Even if you use high-quality skincare products and treat yourself to the latest and greatest procedures, your skin still won’t be at its best if you’re chronically stressed.

Anyone who experiences inflammatory skin conditions knows how powerful that mind-body connection can be. A stressful situation at work or family issues can trigger breakouts and inflammatory rashes.

I can’t offer an antidote to stress in a needle or a bottle, but I can share how I maintain a calm mind and body.

In addition to getting enough sleep and exercise, I meditate. My practice is simple: I aim for 10 minutes a day. It starts with paying attention to my breath. I breathe slowly and focus on relaxing my body, starting with my head and working my way down to my feet. I connect with something bigger than myself. I try to see myself as a part of something. You may call it nature, the universe, or God. By putting a pin in everyday life and removing myself from the deadlines and pressures of the day allows me to focus on a deeper connection and re-center.

Most people associate meditation with stress reduction and mental clarity, This practice helps with those things, which can have a profound impact on your health and your skin's appearance.

Regular meditation can help regulate stress hormones, reduce inflammation, and improve your mental health and resiliency. A happier, more peaceful you will result in healthier you, which reflects in your skin.

This is Your Skin on Stress

Chronic stress can trigger certain skin conditions, including eczema, psoriasis, and acne. It can also cause premature aging.

A stressed body releases cortisol, a hormone that if it's prolonged can contribute to inflammation and increase oil production in the skin.

Meditation activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which calms the body and gets it out of fight-or-flight mode.

Meditation Can Slow Down the Aging Process & Boost Immunity

Collagen, the protein responsible for maintaining skin firmness, naturally declines with age.

Chronic stress accelerates collagen breakdown. Meditation is an indirect but powerful way to slow down the aging process.

Since meditation lowers inflammation and promotes relaxation and better sleep, your skin can regenerate and repair more effectively.

Keep it Simple

You don’t need to take an expensive trip and go on a retreat to learn meditation. There are plenty of apps and online resources that can teach you deep breathing techniques, mindfulness, and guided visualization.

Make time for your health. Even 5-10 minutes of meditation a day can improve your outlook, your health and boost your immunity.

As always, I am here to answer any questions. I hope to see you soon.
