What is a photo facial?

You've probably heard about photo facials, IPL, sunspot treatments, rosacea treatments and telangiectasia treatments, but have you ever wondered how laser can treat so many conditions?

Let's start with the fundamentals. What happens during treatment is a laser shoots a beam into the skin at specified depth, speed and power. The condition being treated will dictate the intensity. The heat from the light gets absorbed by the pigment in a person's skin. Pigment is found in brown spots, hair, tiny capillaries or blood vessels.

Once the heat is absorbed by the pigment, the pigment is destroyed, resulting in a cascade of a healing properties to clean up the damage. This improves circulation, collagen production, elastin and hyaluronic acid production. Once all the cellular debris is cleaned up, the skin looks fresh, clean and rejuvenated.

Who is a good candidate for laser treatments such as photo facials, IPL, redness or brown spots removal?

People with light to medium skin tones or Fitzpatrick types I-III.

Darker toned skin or Fitzpatrick Skin types IV or higher are not good candidates because the skin has pigment evenly dispersed throughout the skin. The superficial pigment will absorb heat and cause a burn. Which can cause long term hyper or hypo-pigmentation.

Is there down time?

There is minimal to zero downtime. The brown spots will get very brown and appear like little black flecks for a few days. If you are treating redness from rosacea, the redness will gradually dissipate after a couple treatments. A person will look flushed and it may feel like a sunburn for the day.

How many sessions are needed?

To correct a skin issue, three treatments are needed usually performed one month apart. One photo facial a year can be done to maintain the skin.

What is the cost?

A photo facial is $250 each session.
