Quarantine skincare strategies
Updated: May 19
If you’ve invested in Botox and fillers, one of the best ways to preserve your results is to take care of your skin. That’s especially important right now since the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in Aesthetics clinics having to temporarily close doors.
Your daily skincare regimen should be viewed as essential as brushing your teeth and flossing. Although some cosmetic treatments, such as laser or micro needling, do improve the quality of your skin, Botox alone will not keep your skin exfoliated, moisturized and protected.
Shopping for skincare products can be daunting because there are hundreds of different types of cleansers, moisturizers, serums and sunscreens. Where does a gal or guy begin? I find it helpful to focus on the fundamentals. Remember, your basic skincare regimen should involve the following steps: cleanse, target, moisturize and protect.
As I describe the steps, I will provide a few skincare product recommendations, but I encourage you to talk to me before you spend hundreds of dollars on products. If you’re my client, I know your skin and will be able to suggest products that will be right for you.
Cleansing is the most fundamental step that you can take to wash off dirt and environmental pollutants. Wash your face in the morning and at the end of the day. If you’re exhausted, it’s tempting to just crash, but take the two minutes to cleanse. Sleeping with the day’s leftover makeup on clogs your pores, making you more prone to breakouts.
Vivier’s Foaming Cleanser is an excellent product that is suitable for all skin types. It removes impurities, excess oil and makeup without leaving your face feeling dry and tight. If you have particularly oily skin, a medicated wash might be more suitable.
After you have cleansed your face, your skin is primed to target your specific skin concern. For instance, if your concern is aging, you’ll want to apply a high-quality serum. I recommend Vivier’s C E with Peptides serum. Clients who have tried this product absolutely love it. The company’s founder, Jess Vivier, patented the highest-quality stable L-Ascorbic Acid USP serum. Vivier’s anti-aging serums fight free radicals and brighten your skin. My clients are often surprised by how quickly the texture of their skin improves after they add a pharmaceutical-grade serum to their daily regimen.
If you’re prone to acne breakouts or have uneven skin tone, you will want to use a serum or product that targets your specific area of concern. Every client has unique needs and that is why it is important to have a discussion before spending your hard-earned money on any product.
A good moisturizer will help maintain your skin’s moisture barrier. As we age, our skin starts to lose the ability to retain moisture. Products that worked for you in your twenties may no longer be suitable for you in your thirties. Also, Manitoba’s dry seasons can wreak havoc on your skin. Think about how dry your hands feel when you turn the heat on in fall. That’s why it’s important to revisit your regimen and assess if your products are still working for you.
Remember, the delicate skin around your eyes needs extra care. Vivier’s GrenzCine Eye is an excellent specialty product that combines pharmaceutical-grade Vitamin C with Polyamine-DAB to increase the firmness of the skin around the eyes and diminish fine lines.
We should all know the importance of protecting your skin from the sun. Never leave your house without wearing sunscreen, even during the winter! As much as I love the sun, UVA and UVB rays will age your skin and may put you at risk for skin cancer. If you’re active, remember to reapply sunscreen throughout the day.
My clients who have revisited and changed their skincare regimens have been pleasantly surprised by the results. The amount of research and development that goes into pharmaceutical-grade skincare products means you will get noticeable results. If you haven’t refreshed your skincare regimen in a few years, let’s talk! I can’t see you in person right now, but you can contact me.
